What linen PAR actually means

One PAR is a single full circulation of an item for the whole house: everything the hotel needs on the beds and racks at 100 percent occupancy. PAR level is how many of those circulations you own, so that one can be in use, one moving through the wash and the rest held as shelf or transit stock. The right number is set by turnaround time, not by preference.

PAR, capacity and cost move together

A thin PAR forces the laundry to keep pace with the floors in real time, which shows up as overtime and shorter linen life. Check that the machines can carry that pace in the laundry capacity calculator and price the consequences in the laundry cost calculator.

Assumptions and limits

  • Rooms, not occupied rooms. PAR is sized to a sell-out so the house never runs short on its busiest night.
  • Unit costs are yours to enter. The starting values are placeholders, not quoted prices. Use your supplier’s current pricing before you build a purchase order.
  • Annual rag-out is not included. This is opening inventory. Budget replacement separately — it belongs in the linen replacement line of your cost per pound.
  • Mixed bed types need separate runs. King, queen and double-double linens are not interchangeable; run the calculator once per bed configuration if your sheet sizes differ.
