Hotel room inspection checklist
A good inspection checklist describes finished conditions an inspector can see in seconds, not tasks an attendant should have done. Below is a full checklist by area, the time each inspection realistically takes, and the arithmetic that turns your inspection policy into supervisor headcount.

Turning inspection policy into supervisor hours
Inspection is the one housekeeping task where policy directly sets headcount, and it is routinely left out of the staffing plan.
| Coverage policy | Rooms inspected of 180 | Minutes at 6 each | Inspector shifts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Every departure | 180 | 1,080 | About 4 over a 5-hour window |
| Departures + VIP (60%) | 108 | 648 | About 2–3 |
| Rotating spot check (30%) | 54 | 324 | About 1–2 |
| New hires + escalations only | 20–40 | 120–240 | 1 |
Substitute your own per-room inspection time and release window. Then model the inspectors alongside attendants and housemen in the staffing calculator so the policy is funded rather than assumed.
Making failures useful
- Record a reason code per failure, not just a pass or fail. Three failures on “bathroom floor corners” is an SOP problem, not three attendant problems.
- Keep the checklist wording identical to your SOP and attendant checklist, or attendants are graded against a standard they were never given.
- If re-cleans cluster on one room type, its minutes are probably wrong. Re-time it and update the plan — see cleaning time by room type.
- Track re-clean minutes as real labor in your productivity review; hidden re-cleans are why actual hours beat planned hours.
Put this to work
Inspection is a staffing line, not a good intention
Model attendants and inspectors together against your real room mix and see what your inspection policy does to finish time and cost per occupied room.
Free to run, no account needed. An account keeps each property’s minutes, wages and daily boards so tomorrow’s plan starts from yesterday’s actuals.
